Tell Those Pounds to Take a Hike!

By Hannah Callaway and the TLS Team

Are you looking for adventure this summer? Do you love nature? Do you like combining exercise with pleasure? If you silently answered “yes” to these questions, then it’s time for you to take a hike.

Hiking can be a quick afternoon trip, an overnight camping event, or a weeklong adventure. Many hiking enthusiasts indeed spend their entire summer on one trail or in one area. Here are some of the best in North America and many more can be found by visiting Trails.com.

Pacific Coast Trail
Spanning three states, seven national parks, and twenty four national forests, the PCT is 2,650 miles of beauty. It is easily accessible from many major west coast cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle.

Appalachian Trail
The AT stretches from Maine down to Georgia, passing through 12 states. The AT is the longest marked trail in the country and is maintained by more than 6,000 volunteers.

Grand Canyon National Park
There are 15 trails leading into this famous park. If you plan to stick around overnight, make sure to secure the proper permit. The North Rim tends to be more secluded than the more popular South Rim.

Glacier National Park
My personal favorite place for an adventure is at this Montana paradise. A hike here will surely include unique wildlife, breathtaking mountain peaks, and more than 20 glaciers. Beware of melting snow that can alter hiking paths depending on the time of the year.

Denali National Park
Fancy a trail-less hike? Adventure to Alaska to visit Denali National Park, where terrain is rugged and difficult and a short hike can quickly turn into a very long excursion. Hiking at Denali is recommended for experience hiking enthusiasts.
